How to Improve Your Mood with Food

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Eat a few eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try these tips instead!
