Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood

For the most part, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to learn, are wonderful at combating depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat some eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel hungry! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to lift your moods too!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try several of these instead!
