Foods That Can Make You Happy
In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!
Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for raising your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.
Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can be terrible! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you know that it helps you to raise your moods too!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
