Foods That Make You Happy
Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to be in a better mood. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.
Grains can be great for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can be awful! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel better. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these hints instead.
