Foods That Can Make You Happy
Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are wonderful at combating depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and be happy!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.
If you wish to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.
Some grains are actually excellent for repelling bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You likely already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!
See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
