Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you combat depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Try consuming some eggs to cheer up!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are good if you wish to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

Some grains are really excellent for driving away bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. It’s easy to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you are aware that it can help raise your mood also!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try some of these instead!
