Foods That Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a terrible mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be awful! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods also!

See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
